Why we sometimes need to free us from freedom

You have a sabbatical coming up? Sounds great! Your boss just announced flexible working hours and remote work possibilities? Fantastic! You have the freedom what to work on first and how to make it work? Sounds awesome! Hold on, well maybe at first it does sound great, but the moment you look deeper into the small print you realize that all this freedom might be not as relaxing as you were hoping in the beginning. You need to start pushing yourself, organising yourself and thinking yourself constantly. But the hardest thing might be to actually find out for yourself when to push and when to rewards yourself with some time for yourself.


Most important is the awareness of these situations. And when you read until here and already resonate with this article then you made the first step to improvement already. Self-awareness and the understanding of self-care are most important when you want to fell under control of your freedom. Start off with reflecting on your last three months. What did you do on a high-level thought? What were the high- and lowlights? When you would need to write a book about these three months, which moments will take pages to be described and which will not be even mentioned because you cannot remember them in detail? Take a few minutes to think about why you can remember specific moments better than others. They might have been more emotional, or simply had more of your full concentration. Either way, you lived them more deeply and this is what you want to strive for in every second of every day. The most difficult part will probably be the “how” in getting to the deepness in moments.
